Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior official said the incident left him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
